Richard Colby Butman, 91, of Orford died September 14, 2003 at his home. Mr. Butman was born on December 30, 1911 in Orford and was a lifelong resident. He was the son of the late Charles and Inez (Brown) Butman. For many years he was a carpenter working for Trumbel Nelson Company. After he retired he enjoyed making miniature furniture and at the age of 72 he began carving ducks. Mr. Butman also worked part-time until he was 89 years old for the Town of Orford where he was involved in tax mapping and the transfer of deeds. He was a member of the Historical Society and was the first to receive a lifetime honor membership. Family members include; one son, Herbert C. Butman of Lyme, NH; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Marion "Molly" (Streeter) Butman; a daughter, Winifred Young, a sister, Dorothy Love, and a brother, Warren Butman. A Graveside Service will be held this Sunday at 1:30 PM at Orford Street Cemetery.
