Richard C. Wheatley of Littleton, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 16, 2024 following an extended illness, his wife Bonnie and family by his side.
Rich was born on May 30, 1952, in Orange, New Jersey, the son of Edward C. and Beverly M. (nee Cadby) Wheatley. He grew up in Parlin, New Jersey, and graduated from Cedar Ridge High School.
Rich was a man of many interests and passions. A talented photographer, motorcycle enthusiast, and hiker, he hiked to the top of all the presidential mountains as well as transversing the Appalachian Trail from New Jersey to Maine. Rich shared his love of the outdoors with his children William and Malinda by bringing them on many hiking and camping adventures. Rich’s grandson Maddox already is an avid lover of the outdoors just like his PopPop. He was an amazing cook and could pretty much whip up anything you asked him to. Rich always had a smile on his face and really supported his kids in sharing kindness, love, and empathy to others.
Rich worked at a number of places over the years, including the Mount Washington Hotel, the Cog Railway on Mount Washington, Drummonds Mountain Shop, and most recently working at The Ninety-Nine in Littleton.
Rich spent a majority of his life in the White Mountains, where he met his wife, Bonnie. The two have spent their years together enjoying the beauty of the region and each other’s company. Bonnie and Rich’s children will always carry a fond memory of his jokes, warmth, and time spent together. He will truly be missed by all who knew him, but especially his family.
Rich is survived by his wife, Bonnie Wheatley (nee Ramsey) of Littleton; his son, William Wheatley-Uhl of Portland, Oregon; his daughter, Malinda Myers (Brandon); his grandson, Maddox Myers of Charlotte, NC; his sisters, Lynn Sandieson (Richard) of Meadville, PA and Wendy Wheatley (Jack) of Bloomsbury, NJ; and his niece, Marin Sandieson. He is further survived by his stepsons, Josiah Bartlett of Littleton and Nathaniel Bartlett (Mary) of N. Thornton; his stepdaughter, Courtney Bartlett Donati (Adam) of Lincoln; six beautiful grandchildren; and longtime friend, Charles Walker.
