Richard Michael Kiley passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Richard was born on June 7, 1939 to Edward and Catherine Kiley and raised in Somerville, MA. He grew up attending Somerville schools and enlisted in the US Army in 1958. Richard held positions including Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Transportation Sergeant, First Sergeant, First Enlisted Advisor, and finally Sergeant Major, the highest rank an enlisted soldier can achieve. Richard culminated his career at the Military Traffic Management Command in Okinawa, Japan as the Terminal Sergeant Major. His early career began with two tours of duty in Vietnam during the war. During peacetime, his deployments took him around the world. His tours of duty included Massachusetts, Korea, Arizona, Germany, New Zealand, Antarctica, and Okinawa. During his service, Richard received two Bronze Stars with Oak Leaf Clusters, the Defensive Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal with Nine Awards, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with four Clusters.

Richard married Lorraine (Wastaferro) in 1970 and welcomed a son, Michael Richard in 1977. The family lived in Germany, Arizona, New Zealand and Massachusetts before settling in Nashua, NH in 1987. After Richard’s retirement from the Army in 1990, he served his community as a security guard at the Nashua Public Library for 10 years. In his later years, Richard and Lorraine spent much of their time traveling the world and enjoying many peaceful summers at their second home on Long Lake in Bridgton, Maine.

Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lorraine and son Michael, daughter-in-law Sarah, and granddaughter Maeve Kiley of Manchester, NH. Richard is also survived by siblings Joan and her husband Richard Powers of Cumming, GA, Jean and her husband Robert Arsenault of Somerville, MA; sister-in-law Marilyn Kiley of Cambridge, MA and sister-in-law Jackie Paparo of Hudson, NH and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings Edward Kiley, Eleanor Tarmey and brothers-in-law Brendan Tarmey and Dominic Paparo.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 10AM at the Parish of the Resurrection, 449 Broad St, Nashua, NH. Family and friends are welcome to offer condolences prior to the service beginning at 9:15AM at the church. A burial with military honors will be held in the spring at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.

Richard’s family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton and the Franklin VNA & Hospice for their compassionate care during the past year. We ask you to consider making a donation to the NH Veterans Home in Richard’s name in lieu of flowers.
