Richard F. LaMotte Sr. June 15, 1942 – March 19, 2025 Hartland, VT – Richard "Dick" LaMotte Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and community member, passed away on March 19, 2025, at the Jack Byrne Center in the loving company of his family. He was born on June 15, 1942, to Francis and Delphine (Blodgett) LaMotte in West Lebanon, NH, where he spent his childhood as their treasured only child. In high school, Dick's life forever changed when he met Mildred Smith, his lifelong love. Their union began on February 9, 1963, leading to decades of shared happiness as they raised four children in Hartland, VT. Together, they cultivated a close-knit family whose successes were Dick’s greatest pride. With an industrious spirit, Dick devoted years to Miller Auto Co., transitioning later to self-employment where his passion for cars and bodywork thrived. Even in retirement, Dick found joy delivering auto parts for Advance Auto, embracing his gift for connecting with people along the way. Dick will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, his extraordinary ability to share stories, and his infectious enthusiasm for racing. Proudly, he often reminisced about the LaMotte family's racing accomplishments, boasting seven championship wins and living by the wise words, "You can't win a race if you don't finish a race."
Dick found immense joy in the simple pleasures of nature, which became a hallmark of his gentle spirit. He loved spending time in his yard, where he cultivated a haven for the squirrels and birds he so enjoyed feeding. Watching their lively interactions brought him endless delight and a deep sense of connection to the world around him. His passion for gardening further showcased his love for nurturing life, as his carefully tended plants and flowers added vibrancy and beauty to his home and community. Dick’s bond with nature was not just a pastime but a reflection of his kind, caring nature. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Mildred; children Dick Jr. (Sue) of White River Junction, VT, Mike of West Lebanon, NH, Suzi (Mike) Wilds of Newbury, VT, and Kim (Alan) Beebe of Hartland, VT; along with his cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and an extended family who will deeply miss him. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Dick's remarkable life at a gathering this summer.
