Captain Richard E. (Dick) Marshall (ret) passed away on July 4, 2022 comfortably at home surrounded by  his loving family following a long illness.

 

Dick was born on May 6, 1943. In Lowell, Massachusetts. To parents George Marshall and Florette (Hudon) Bouchard.  He graduated from Alvirne High School in Hudson NH in 1961, where he helped his soccer team win the State Championship.  After high school, Dick joined the United States Army, and later the United States Air Force. With whom he served in Vietnam in 1965. 

 

Dick was hired as a Call Firefighter on October 1, 1972. He was promoted to full-time on July 1, 1977, promoted to Lieutenant in 1978 and Captain on March 5, 1989. He served as Captain until he retired on March 1, 2002. In his 31-year career, Dick made many significant contributions to the Hudson Fire Department and the Hudson Firefighters Relief Association. 

 

He was the recipient of several awards including three Unit Citations for his actions helping the citizens of Hudson and was a Charter Member of The Professional Firefighters of Hudson, IAFF Local 3154.

 

Dick was a 39 year member of the American Legion Post 48 in Hudson NH. He served as American Legion Post 48 Commander 1998-1999. And American Legion Department Vice Commander 2001-2003.

 

Dick loved camping, his family, serving his community, and being a self proclaimed "menace". 

 

He is predeceased by his parents, beloved aunts and uncles, and many friends. 

 

He is survived by his children, George M. Marshall, and his fiance Sally Ruegg, of Torrington CT. 

Stacey J. Adair, and her fiance Michael J. LaPlante, of Hudson NH.  

His beloved grandchildren, Michael E. Marshall, Amanda M. Adair, Kaylee A. Adair of Hudson NH. Katelyn M. LaPlante and Brandon M. LaPlante of Lowell, Ma. Krystal Hamilton of KY. Sean A. Marshall of Derry NH and Lilly J. Marshall of Manchester NH. A number of aunts, uncles and cousins. Special family friend Brenda Carrier. Stacey's "in laws" Dianne and Kevin King. Many brothers and sisters in the fire service and American Legion families and friends.

 

Service will be held at the NH Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen NH on July 14th at 11 am.
