Antrim – Richard O. Schacht, 77, of Grove Street, died, January 28th, 2001 following a long illness. Born on April 15, 1923, the son of Otto and Marjorie (Carnes) Schacht. He was raised in Henniker, and graduated from the Cogswell Memorial High School in 1941. Richard served in the Army Air Corps, 427th Bomb Squadron, 303rd Bombardment Group, from 1941 to 1945. He attended Concord Commercial College. Richard worked for many years at Monadnock Paper Mills, Bennington, NH, where in 1967 he was promoted to Vice President and General Manager. Richard went on to pursue a career in Real Estate, associated with Duggins Real Estate in Hillsborough and later with The Mollers in Hancock for nine years, prior to his retirement. Throughout the years, Richard served the Town of Antrim in numerous capacities, such as Selectman, School Board Representative, and Planning Board Member. He was recognized in 2000 for 50 years of continuous membership in the American Legion, Post 50. Richard was an avid sportsman throughout his life and proudly supported Ducks Unlimited. Richard is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Gloria P. Schacht. Family members include Stephen and Mary Schacht, of Antrim, NH, Kurtis and Dolly Schacht, of Vero Beach, FL, Cindy Bastey of Hollowell, ME and Kristina and Scott Burnside of Antrim, NH, his grandchildren, Christopher, Aaron, Joel, Alexandra and Mackenzie. A sister, Joan Hardy of Dade City, FL. He was loved and will be missed. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Antrim, on Friday, February 2nd, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the Antrim Rescue Squad, c/o M. Beauchamp, 29 Buttercup Lane, or The American Legion, Post 50, c/o Phil Lang, P.O. Box 5, Antrim, NH, 03440.
