Richard Edward Warden, age 85, of Whitefield, NH, died peacefully on July 11, 2022, after complications from a lengthy illness. Ed is celebrated for his love of family, skiing, fishing, and spending time in the outdoors. Ed adored his loving wife of 63 years, Judith, his children, and grandchildren. Ed’s favorite place to spend his time was sitting on the porch of his Partridge Lake camp; Hatetoquitit. He worked tirelessly remodeling the camp and was proud of this special legacy. Ed enjoyed sitting on the porch listening to the loons and watching the sparkle on the water. He was an active member of the Partridge Lake Owners Association for many years and volunteered at the annual picnics and hosting Board meetings.
Ed was born in Chambersburg, PA, and graduated from Millersville State College where he met his bride, Judith Ann Eaton. He earned a Master’s in Education from Villanova University and worked in the Rose Tree Media School District where he taught middle school and coached football. Ed later joined the faculty at Bloomsburg University as a Supervisor for Student Teachers and taught summer school for Penn State University. Ed retired from Bloomsburg in 1994 and moved full time to New Hampshire.
Ed was an avid fisherman and enjoyed teaching his sons and grandsons how to fly fish. He cherished his time on the water with the boys and had many special fishing trips with his sons Scott and Todd throughout many rivers of the western US. Ed was a Board member and treasurer for the Ammonoosuc Chapter of Trout Unlimited and made many wonderful friendships with other local fisherman. Ed also had a love for skiing, teaching his three children and grandchildren how to ski at Bretton Woods Mountain Resort and Cannon Mountain. Ed enjoyed his time as a volunteer at Bretton Woods as a Mountain Host and had a group of incredible friends he met with each week for skiing and coffee breaks. Ed was blessed to travel to the Tetons with his entire family at the age of 81 for his final ski trip, where he skied with all of his children and grandchildren altogether.
Ed is predeceased by his parents, Melvin Richard Warden and Martha Crawford. He is survived by his wife Judith Warden, sister Jane Gordon, daughter Amy Somerville Clarke (Keith), sons Scott (Kathy) Warden and Todd (Astrid) Warden, grandchildren Christopher Somerville, Ryan Somerville, Quimby Warden, Tucker Warden, and Addie Warden and nieces and nephews.
A private burial will be held in Littleton this week and a Celebration of Life will be planned for next summer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Alzheimer’s Association alz.org.
