Richard Allen York, Born December 30, 1941, in Exeter, N.H. died February 5, 2017 at the Hyder House in Dover, NH. He was the third child of Norman Armstrong York and Pauline Elizabeth (Pierce) York.
Raised in Durham, N.H. he moved to Dover, N.H. after graduating from Oyster River High School. Richard went on to Macintosh College in Dover, where he received his degree in Accounting. Because of his love of automobiles he spent most of his career as a comptroller for many different automobile dealerships in New Hampshire.
Richard joined the Army National Guard Reserves in November 1963 and served until November 1969, most of that time as Battery Clerk. As a civilian Richard found many ways to serve his country. He was a Dover city councilman, president of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce Chair, Cub Scout leader, member and treasurer of First Parish Church UCC of Dover, and a board member of the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.
On November 28th 1964 Richard married Lauraine E. Blanchard of Northwood, N.H. at the Community Church in Durham. Richard and "Laurie" settled in Dover until they retired and moved to Barrington, N.H. in 2008. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Community Church of Durham in 2014 and established a connection there with Rev. Dr. Mary Westfall.
Richard adored his family, the families of his neighbors, church friends, and Laurie's Daycare children. He enjoyed making up silly words with the youngest children. He was called "Papa" by the children and their parents as well.
Richard is survived by his wife, Lauraine; 3 children, Robert York of Santa Barbara CA; Catherine York Brower of Barrington, N.H.; and Cheryl York of Orange Park, FLA; a sister, Joanne McKenna of Dover, N.H.; an aunt, Emily Cook of Durham, N.H.; a cousin Don Cook of Durham, N.H.; eight grandchildren: Ben and Emma York of Santa Barbara, CA; Gwynevere and Cordelia Norris of Barrington, N.H., Malachi Turner of Barrington, N.H., James and Derek Brower of Barrington, N.H., and Casey Babcock of Orange Park, FLA; Four Nieces and six nephews; 9 cousins, and his little dog Ola.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held sometime in the summer. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Alzheimer Association, alz..org
