Rita M. (Dunn) Clark, 81, of Amherst, NH, formerly of Northampton, MA and Portland, ME, died on April 3, 2000, after a long illness. She was born on August 23, 1918 in Northampton, MA to the late James and Julia (Larock) Dunn. She had been a resident of Amherst since 1965. She was the widow of James J. Clark, who died in 1990. Mrs. Clark graduated from Northampton High School in 1935, and from McCarthy's Business College in 1936. She had worked as a timekeeper for the Home Sewing Project as part of the Works Progress Administration (WPA), and as a clerk in the office of the Northampton City Auditor. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Smith and John Crawford of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James A. Clark of Amherst, and Michael and Denise Clark of Milford; and four grandchildren, Joshua Smith of Seattle, Washington, Caleb Smith of Cambridge, Mass., and Shaula Clark and Max Clark, both of Milford. Other survivors include a sister-in-law, Doris Shubach, and a niece, Karen Cote, both of Belchertown, Mass; a niece, Lisa Kemp of Colorado; and her close friend, Queen Thygeson of Amherst; and many other friends and neighbors. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nashua Humane Society, 24 Ferry Street, Nashua, NH.
