Rita Florence (Hollowell) King, 75 of Pembroke, NH passed away March 6, 2009 at the hospice house in Concord NH with her loving family by her side, after a courageous battle with ALS. Mrs. King was born on May 17, 1933 in Northampton, England where she resided until she met her husband of 50 years, the late James L. King. Mr. King, who was serving in the US Air Force in England, met and fell in love with Rita and they moved to the US and lived in California, Maine and NH, where they raised a family. Mrs. King enjoyed traveling, dancing, gardening, volunteer work, summer camp in Maine, and mostly spending time with her children, grandchildren, and the many wonderful friends she made over the years. Mrs. King was a member of the Salem, NH Crimeline for 25 years and also served as their Secretary. She enjoyed the many long lasting friendships which developed over the years while working with the Salem Crimeline and its community. Mrs. King is survived by her four children: Cory King and his wife Terri of Mesa, AZ, Diane Cavanaugh of Portsmouth, NH, Maureen Descoteaux and her husband Marc of Colchester, VT, and Lisa Potvin and her husband Gary of Epsom, NH; six grandchildren: Jennifer, Jillian, Merritt, Myles, Kyle, Joseph; a sister Maureen and her husband Cliff, and brother David in the UK and their families. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 11:30am at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, 172 King Street, Boscawen, NH. Burial will be at the New Hampshire State Veteran's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. King's memory may be made to the ALS Association NNE Chapter, 10 Ferry Street, Suite 438 Box 314, Concord, NH 03301 The family would like to thank Quality Care Partners of Manchester, the Concord VNA and Hospice House for all their loving care during Mrs. King's illness.
