Robert L. "Bob" Babcock, 83, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on April 27, 2025, in Nashua, New Hampshire. Born on January 15, 1942, in Boston, Massachusetts, Bob lived a life full of resilience and devotion to those around him.
Bob became a Glazier in Glaziers and Glassworkers Local 1044 on February 12, 1968 after working non-Union at Acme Glass. He started his Union career working at PPG and over the years worked for Perfection Glass, Karas & Karas, A & A Window, J & G Glass, LBL Skysystems, Permasteelisa, K & G Entrances, Diamond Installations, Prudential Door & Window as well as a long stint at Hub Glass Service. Bob's talent really shone at Hub where the vast majority of time the Glaziers were doing repair work which was right up Bobby's alley. When Bob was working in the field, whether as a foreman or just part of the crew, he always was great to the apprentices and the other young Glaziers just starting out, spending time teaching them the tricks of the trade and offering his mentorship. His professionalism and quiet demeanor were a welcome addition to any crew he worked with. Bobby was well liked and respected as well as showing respect for his fellow Glaziers. Bobby also was a regular Union meeting attendee and held a position on the Local 1044 Executive Board for multiple terms. He was on the Board and assisted when the Local entered into full affiliation with Painters District Council 35. Bob was a 57 year member of the Union, which says a lot about his dedication to his family, friends, Brothers and Sisters in the Local, and his craft. Not a lot of members ever reach 50 years, let alone almost 60. Bob will be missed.
In his spare time, Bob was known as "Bob the Builder". He has fixed windows, floors, decks, bathrooms, for so many family and friends. It's what he loved to do and he was the best at his craft.
He was the beloved husband of the late Rose DeFilippo. Bob faced profound loss with strength and grace following the passing of his daughter, Anne Marie McNeil and his son, Walter Babcock. He is lovingly remembered by his partner, Eileen Guilfoy of Nashua; his daughter, Darlene O'Connell and Sean; and his daughter-in-law, Ellen Babcock. Bob was a proud grandfather to Chelsie Stackhouse, Christopher Babcock, Sara Babcock, and Nathan O'Connell. His great-granddaughter, Rae Rose Stackhouse, brought him immense joy in his later years. Bob also leaves behind extended family who cherished him deeply, brother-in-law, Guy DeFilippo and sister-in-law, Mary D'Angelo, along with many nieces and nephews whose lives he touched.
Arrangements: A Memorial Service will be held to Celebrate Bob’s life on Wednesday, May 14th at 10:30a at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 777 West Hollis St. Nashua NH. In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua, www.bgcn.com/donations, in Bob's memory. Bob’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
