Robert Brooks
Corl
Jul 20, 1941 — Jun 27, 2026
Robert “Brooks” Corl passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2026, with family by his side. Brooks was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was the son of Samuel Shirey Corl and Jane Brooks Corl. He attended East Grand Rapids Highschool, graduated from Stanford University and later earned his MBA from the University of Michigan.
Brooks was known for his steady presence, witty humor, and commitment to his family, friends, and community. He raised two daughters Susie and Janie with his former wife in Marblehead, Massachusetts. He enjoyed supporting the girls on the sidelines at high school field hockey games, summer family trips to Michigan, volunteering as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Old North Church, hosting bridge games, and Gourmet Club with friends, and racing his Town Class sailboat. He was also a dedicated Polaroid employee for over 35 years before he retired.
After retiring, Brooks moved to Millis, MA where he quickly became an active community member involved as Treasurer of The Millis Fund, Treasurer of the Friends of Millis Council on Aging, Member of the Lions Club, and as a Friend of Millis Public Library. He also enjoyed reading to elementary school children at the Millis public schools. On fall weekends he could be found commenting at the Millis Highschool Football games or in spring recapping baseball and softball games on Millis local media.
Brooks was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ, Congregational in Millis, MA, where he served as a Deacon and sang with the choir. He also sang with the Charles River Chorale. Brooks shared his love of singing alongside his close friend Kathy Stevens. The two took many memorable trips and were members of North Shore Music Theatre and Walpole Footlighters and enjoyed attending shows together. Brooks also kept a close connection with his extended family, traveling to many reunions over the years.
Brooks was predeceased by his parents, Sam Corl II and Jane Brooks Corl; his brother, Sam Corl III; and the mother of his children, Sue Corl. He is survived by his daughters, Susie Corl and her partner Terry Rourke, and Janie Corl Maynard and her husband Greg Maynard, and his grandsons Calvin and Riley.
