Robert L. Collins, 88, of Wilton, NH, died July 18 at Southern New Hampshire Regional Hospital in Nashua. Long a resident of Nashua, NH, he was a graduate of Nashua High School class of '45, though he missed his graduation because he had enlisted in the U. S. Navy. Bob's service in World War II was in the Philippines where he served as a Medic attached to the Marines. Following WWII he attended Boston College under the GI Bill and obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed by the Raytheon Corp., where he worked on early microwave development, and at Sanders where he worked in countermeasures. He left the industry in 1971.
With his wife, Julia (Stivers) Collins, they opened Keedo's Pub on West Hollis street in Nashua which offered the first raw bar in the city. After selling the pub they operated a remodeling/cabinetry business together, moving to Wilton in 1982. He continued his cabinetry along with becoming a staff member at Hampshire Hills Health Club until his retirement in 2008.
Bob was very active in the American Legion Bent-Burk Post #10 where he was Service Officer for 25 years and Post Commander for two terms.
Born April 16, 1927 in Quincy, Mass., he was predeceased by his mother Dorothy (Liz) H. Collins, father John H. Collins, brother John F. Collins and son Stephen. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Judy, sister Beverly McKay and her husband Dick of Nashua, son Jon Collins of Conway, SC, granddaughter Sandra Filteau and her husband Tim of Milford, grandson Nathan Collins and his wife Courtney of Milford, grandson Ian Collins of Raleigh, NC, and three great grandchildren.
