Robert W. DeSoto

Robert Walter DeSoto, 81 of Ludlow, VT, passed away May 22, 2025, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center with his wife at his side. He was born in Wakefield, RI, on April 15, 1944, and resided in Ronkonkoma, NY, until retirement and then moved to Vermont.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Doreen; daughter Angelique; and his pride & joys, his grandchildren, Luke, Ava, and Alexandra. He is also survived by his brother George DeSoto (Lorraine); best friend and sister-in-law Debra Cody (Matthew, deceased); buddy and brother-in-law Jerry McCullough (Elise, deceased); sister-in-law Denise McCullough; sister-in-law Beverly McCullough-King (Kenneth, deceased), and his special friend Sharro. He was the beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Josephine DeSoto; his daughter, Donna DeSoto; and his brother-in-law Glenn McCullough.

Robert met his soulmate Doreen at the I.R.S where he worked and retired from in 2003. It was a true whirlwind romance, marriage, and life! He adored his wife so much that every time she said, “I LOVE YOU” he would reply, “BUT I LOVED YOU FIRST” and those were the last words he was able to speak to her!

He was a very proud Army Veteran and served in Vietnam from 1969-1971. He received numerous medals including the Bronze Star. His hobbies/talents were art; where he studied at Boston College and was an avid gardener, but his biggest pride, joy and love was for his country which was evident all throughout his home (inside and out).

Much love and gratitude to so many for offers of support, love and guidance during this most difficult time.
