Robert Hugh Evans, Sr. of Bedford NH passed away Wednesday January 6, 2021. He was born on April 28, 1933 in Melrose MA, the son of Hugh A. Evans and Lillian M.(Delory) Evans. He was husband to Carol J. (DeCotis) Evans. They were married September 20, 1957 in Wentworth, NH.
Robert attended school in Wentworth, Plymouth High School and received his GED while in the US Army. Robert served in the US Army from 1952-1956 during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from his service, he worked for LM Pike for 6 years then for Redi-Mix Concrete Company for 24 years where he was shop steward for Teamsters local 633. He returned to the work force for the city of Manchester and drove the city and school busses for 15 more years.
Robert enjoyed winters in Florida during his retirement and had a passion for square dancing and bluegrass music with his best friend and spouse, Carol. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He enjoyed playing guitar and harmonica around a roaring campfire. He always had the right touch and could fix anything. He enjoyed working on small engines but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol J. (DeCotis) Evans; siblings Beverly (Evans) Moulten, Arnold "Duke" Evans, Joyce (Evans) Tunnell and David Evans; his children, Ronald and wife Rebecca, Gary and wife April, Donna Pettengill, Robert Jr. and wife Deborah, Scott and wife Randy. Grandchildren include Jordan (spouse Danielle), Chelsea, Nicholas, Anthony, Matthew (spouse Heidi), Traci, Joseph, Meghan, Thomas, Michael, Molly, Andrew, Timothy, Shawna ( spouse Jimmy), Eric (spouse Holly). Great Grandchildren include Meriah, Alex, Justin, Thomas, Emilyn, Silas, Collin, Lilee, Phillip and Oliver.
A memorial gathering will be from 4-7 on Wednesday, January 13th at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester with a spring burial TBD in Rumney, NH. In lieu of flowers donations in Robert's memory can be made to the VA Medical Center Volunteer Services Oncology Department 718 Smyth Road Manchester NH 03104 or to Amedisys Hospice 8 Commerce Dr. Suite 101 Bedford NH 03110.
