Robert "Slitzy" H. Evanson, 87, of Hudson, NH passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Wednesday March 6, 2013 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH.
He was born on August 21, 1925 in Boston, MA the son of the late William and Lillian (Barrows) Evanson. He was raised and educated in Weymouth, MA. Robert was a resident of Hudson for 46 years.
He served in the US Army during World War II where he served in Europe (Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe). He was a technician fifth grade with the 2786th Engineer Forestry Company. His Military Medals included European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Sharpshooter, Rifle; Expert, Gunner. He was very honored and proud to be a veteran.
Mr. Evanson worked at Sanders Associates for 24 years until his retirement.
He was known as Mr. Fix-it to his family and friends. He enjoyed working on cars, fishing and spending time with his family. He was also an avid motorcycle enthusiast in his younger days. He was quite the story teller; always telling a story about his travels, previous jobs and his experiences while he was in the service during World War II.
Surviving family members include his wife of 63 years, Carrie (Grono) Evanson of Hudson; three children, Donald Evanson and his wife Tawny of Francestown, NH, Linda Sinotte and her husband Tom of Stuart, FL and Carolyn Levesque and her husband Tom of Amherst, NH; 5 grandchildren, Brian Evanson, Jeannette Stanley, Kayla Sinotte, Gina Levesque and William Levesque; 2 great grandchildren, Jacob and Mirah Stanley; and several nieces and nephews. He was especially close to the Mileski family and children John and Samantha Mileski, Katie Hathaway and Christy Bashor. He was predeceased by his 3 sisters â Charlotte, Shirley and Ethel.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, 234 Hanover St., Manchester, NH at 10am on Saturday, March 16, 2013.
