Robert Matthews Foster September 6, 1912 May 25, 2006 Robert M. Foster, age 93, formerly of Andover, Massachusetts died May 25, 2006 in Manchester, New Hampshire. For nearly 40 years he was a banker with the Arlington Trust Company in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Son of J. Thomas and Olive (Matthews) Foster, he was born and raised in Melrose, Massachusetts. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1934 where he captained the swim team. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Signal Corps as a Captain until 1945. He served for many years as the Executive Vice President at Arlington Trust was on the Board of Board of Directors of the banks holding company, and in semi-retirement was an investment advisor to the banks trust department. During his retirement he resided in Amherst, New Hampshire and spent the winter months in Long Boat Key, Florida. He was a tennis player, avid walker, and swimmer well into his 80s. Mr. Foster was a gentleman of the old order, had a charming wit, and was loved and appreciated by all who knew him. Mr. Foster is survived by his wife, Jean Anwyl (Davis) of Manchester, New Hampshire, sons Richard W. Foster of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Stephen M. Foster of Washington, D.C., daughters Jo-Anwyl F. Keefe and Laurellen Foster, both of Manchester, New Hampshire, nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. There are no calling hours. Private burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield, Massachusetts. Memorial donations may be made to the Bowdoin College Alumni Fund, 4100 College Station, Brunswick, Maine 04011.
