Robert “Bob” Jervis
Contra dancer extraordinaire Bob Jervis died on Jan 14, 2024 at his home in Amherst NH. Born August 26, 1937 in Cincinnati Ohio, he certainly lived in interesting times and loved retelling stories of growing up, traveling with his family, his time in the Army, his adventures in the Boston area while studying computer science at Boston University, and more. Although he retired many years ago, Bob kept up with current engineering marvels. As a Granite State Ambassador, he was an official leaf peeper. Bob enjoyed growing flowers and tending perennials at his apartment and he often was seen hiking many local trails. He was proud of his committee work for the Ralph Page Legacy Dance Weekend as well as other volunteer work over the years. As if those things weren’t enough he also bred, trained, and raised golden retrievers. In spite of his fascination with technology, Bob spent many hours on his Windows 7 computer watching downloaded Youtube videos and researching medical topics so much so that he enjoyed coaching his doctors regarding his medical care.
Most recently his greatest passion was spending time with friends and, of course, contra dancing as many days a week as possible. Bob truly found joy in making other people happy, was a good listener, and had a great sense of humor. A certified Iron Dancer, he lived life to the fullest.
Bob is survived by his many friends throughout New England along with his sister Patricia Cox of North Carolina.
Memorial contra dances will be held in the summer. Donations in his memory may be made to the Monadnock Folklore Society or the NH Capitol Center for the Arts.
Interment will be at the NH State Veterans Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
