Robert J. MacDonald died peacefully in his sleep of natural causes on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022 while at the Eliot Hospital located in Manchester, NH. Bob was born on November 9th, 1938 in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the husband of Margaret MacDonald (Safrine), his wife of 56 years. Bob was the son of Stan & Margaret MacDonald, brother to Louise Wilson (MacDonald) of Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada.

 

Bob moved to the United States from Nova Scotia in 1963 to Boston, MA where he soon met his wife, Margaret, while they worked together at Filenes Department Store. They lived in Boston for 2 years before relocating to the state of NH with their young son Stan and their soon to be born next son Jim.  

 

Bob, a longtime resident of Manchester, NH was retired after a business career with the Union Leader Newspaper, the NH State Credit Union and most recently LCB Transport of Fremont, NH. Bob was well liked by his friends and was always one to strike up a conversation and offer a smile. Bob always kept up with current events, politics, sports and was an avid reader. He loved the outdoors, walks in the woods, fishing and listening to his music collection of Willey Nelson, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.

 

Bob especially loved time with his sons, Stan and Jim and wife, Margaret. Bob adored his sister Louise. He was very close with her children Heather, Margaret Ann and Steven. Bob also enjoyed time with his extended family and made it a point to connect with each family member at family functions and take a personal interest in their life. Bob will be missed tremendously.

 

Robert J. MacDonald is survived by his wife, Margaret MacDonald; son, Stan MacDonald; son, Jim MacDonald; daughter in-law, Kimberly MacDonald; and grandson, Evan MacDonald; as well as various extended family members.
