Robert Theodore Ojendyk

Robert Theodore Ojendyk of Manchester, New Hampshire, passed away at the age of 88 on January 13, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at the Elliot Hospital. Robert was born in Des Moines, Iowa on April 21, 1925 and was the son of the late Emil and Marie (Wieland) Ojendyk.

In 1950, Robert received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University. His passion for learning led him to continue his studies at Ohio State University where he received his Master's Degree in Engineering. As a retiree, he also achieved his Master's Degree in Public Administration from SNHU.

He served his country as a career officer in the US Army Corps of Engineers and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a Veteran of WWII and the Korean War. Robert had a life-long love of traveling and both visited and lived in many countries throughout the world.

He was active in the community and served as a greeter and Eucharistic Minister for St. Catherine's Church. He was a patron of the arts and enjoyed opera and museums. He also loved baseball and football, but most especially spending time with his family.

He was the beloved husband of Christine M. (Hoerl) Ojendyk with whom he shared 58 years of marriage and the loving father of Theresia Ojendyk-Crossman and her husband Michael F. Crossman and Christine J. Ojendyk and her husband Terry Cronin. He was the devoted grandfather of Angela Crossman, Kelly Olsen, Shawn Crossman, Ryan Crossman, Maria Crossman, Michael Crossman and Conall Cronin and seven great-grandchildren. He was the dear brother of Richard Ojendyk, Mary Houston, James Ojendyk, Janice Mentele, the late Patricia Mahoney and he is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 18th at 11:00 AM in Saint Catherine's Church, 207 Hemlock St., Manchester, NH. Relatives and Friends are kindly invited. Interment with Military Honors will take place on Tuesday, January 21st at 10:00 AM at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, in Boscawen, NH.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Robert's memory may be made to the NH Catholic Charities, 215 Myrtle St. Manchester, NH 03105 or St. Joseph's Community Services- Meals on Wheels, 395 Daniel Webster Hwy. Merrimack, NH 03054.
