Robert J. Richards, 76, of Litchfield, NH, previously of North Chelmsford, Billerica, and Wilmington, MA, died peacefully in his home after a lengthy illness on Thursday, October 9, with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Dorothy V. (Blair) Richards. Married in 1946, they recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. He was born January 14, 1927 in Lynn, MA, the son of the late William and Mary (Flaherty) Richards. He served honorably during World War II in the US Coast Guard. A machinist by trade, he was employed for over 30 years by the Payne Elevator Company. He also worked for Polaroid, Boston Machine, and Packard Machinery, as well as his own business, Bob Richards Machine Tools. He was a past member of the Freemason's Friendship Lodge in Wilmington, MA. A loving father, he is survived by the families of his five children, sons Robert J. (Butch) Richards, Jr. of Hollywood, FL, Michael Richards of Rochester, NH, and daughters Lois Radzik of Lowell, MA, Penny Batten and Bonne Cavanagh, both of Litchfield, NH. He was the proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 14th from 1:00-2:30pm at Alvirne Chapel, Rte 102, in Hudson, NH.
