ROBERT "BOB" WATSON SMITH
Robert Watson Smith ("Bob") passed away on April 10, 2021, after a brief illness at the North Pointe (Hospice) House â Haverhill, MA â with his family at his side. He was pre-deceased by MJ Westervelt-Smith, his wife of nearly 75 years, in January.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Bob grew up in Summit, New Jersey, and enjoyed sports throughout his youth. He played football and ice hockey in high school.
Bob enlisted in the Navy where he was a decorated Aircraft Radio Specialist and served tours of duty in the Pacific Ocean region during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, he became an electrician and was an active member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for (75) seventy-years until his passing.
After his time in the Navy, Bob married MJ, his high school love, and they lived in Randolph Township, New Jersey, before relocating to New Hampshire's Upper Connecticut Valley region. Through the years, their family resided in West Lebanon, New Hampshire; then, Lake Fairlee, Vermont and Lebanon, New Hampshire. Bob was the Town of Hanover's (NH) Building Code Administrator for many years until his retirement.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Lauren Dale Llorente (and her husband, Armando Llorente, of Atkinson, New Hampshire) and daughter-in-law, Linda Spooner Smith (of North Haverhill, New Hampshire,) along with several nieces and nephews. Bob and MJ were pre-deceased by two children: daughter, Kim Adair Dehlin, and son, Mark Westervelt Smith.
SERVICES -- The family will have a private "Celebration of Life" event for Bob and MJ at a later date. Memorial contributions for Bob can be made to the USO (www.uso.org) and Guyer-Carrigan American Legion Chapter in Lebanon, NH (www.post22.org).
