Dr. Robert Allen Smith, Jr., 57, of 219 South Road, Deerfield, NH died on March 30, 2000 at Elliot Hospital in Manchester after a long illness. Dr. Smith was born on April 13, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA the son of the late Robert Allen Smith Sr. and Louise Draper Smith Ryan. He was employed at Current Technology in Durham for 10 years as a vision researcher. He was the Director of Vision Research Laboratory at UNH for 20 years where he was also a psychology professor. Dr. Smith was an active member of the American Vision Research Organization and member of the Minuteman Samoyed Club. He was also a semiprofessional blue grass player where he enjoyed playing string instruments. Family members include; his wife of nine years, Dr. Nancy Cook Smith; two daughters, Sara Ann Smith of Raleigh, NC and Kathryn L. Smith of Burlington, VT; stepdaughter, Margaret M. Goodhue of Laurens, SC; and his mother, Louise (Draper) Smith of Bedford, MA. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2000 at 2:30 PM at Carleton Willard Village, 100 Old Billerica Road, Bedford, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Paul Harvey Library of Notre Dame College in Manchester.
