Robert Thomas Myers, 89, of Wolfeboro, NH, passed away on January 21, 2024, after a brief illness.
Bob, or “Henry” as an entire branch of the Myers family affectionately called him, was born on April 8, 1934, to Arthur Joseph and Eleanor Rose (Lyons) Myers in Manchester, NH. He was lovingly looked after by both his grandmother, Gertrude (Boyle) Myers, and his Aunt and Uncle, Thomas Boyle and Catherine “Kay” (Ganley) Myers. His Aunt Kay and Uncle Tom doted on him before having five children of their own. These five cousins thought of him as the family’s first born, as he was more of a sibling to them than a cousin.
After Bob graduated from Bishop Bradley High School in 1953, he went on to join the United States Marine Corps and play basketball in the military. After honorably discharging from the military, he moved to Lakeland, Florida, to attend Florida Southern College, where he met his beautiful bride Jeraldine “Jerri” Purcell. In 1962, Bob worked for Howard Hall Trucking. He was instrumental in organizing the drivers as Teamsters Local 79. This was one of his proudest accomplishments, changing the economic, job benefits, and working conditions for his fellow drivers and himself. For the final years of his career, he worked in real estate. He lived and worked in Central Florida for over sixty years before moving back to New Hampshire in 2019.
Bob loved fishing, sports, and spending time with his three grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to see a basketball or soccer game, a recital, or a play and he found great joy in his grandchildren’s energy and activities. He also enjoyed a good joke or prank and would try almost anything to get a laugh. He was the life of any party and loved his family. His last five years were spent back home in New Hampshire which pleased him to no end.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Eleanor, his Aunt Kay and Uncle Tom, his older brother Joseph Arthur, and his cousin Thomas Myers. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Jeraldine (Purcell) Myers, as well as his son, Thomas Anthony and his wife Rebecca of Ayer, MA, his daughter Tammy Antoinette of Wolfeboro, and his three grandchildren, Rider Leslie, Amelia Myers, and Tessa Myers. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Joan Myers, and his close cousins and their spouses: Sheila and Tom Brisson of Hooksett, Patricia Myers of Manchester, Gary and Donna Myers of Hooksett, Debbie and Matthew McLaughlin of Bedford, and Cindy Myers of Manchester.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date in the Spring and we will notify friends and family. The Cremation Society of NH is assisting with arrangements. To view an online memorial, leave a message of condolence, or for more information please visit https://csnh.com/.
