Robert J. Van Lier, 71, of 233 Tarrytown Road, Manchester died peacefully on February 28, 2001 at his home after a brief illness. Mr. Van Lier was born on May 7, 1929 in Manchester the son of the late Michael and Margaret (Burke) Van Lier. He was a US Army Veteran who served during the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Campaign Stars and the United Nation Service Medal. He worked for J F McElwain Corp. in Manchester from the late 1960's until the late 1970's. He then worked for the City of Manchester until his retirement in the late 1990's. Family members include; his wife of 46 years, Gloria (Anderson) Van Lier; two sons Robert A. Van Lier of Hooksett and Michael J. Van Lier of Manchester; four daughters, Karen Sanocki of Sunset Beach, NC, Sheila Reardon, Janet Van Lier and Sharon Van Lier all of Manchester; twelve grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two sisters, Mary Lamy and Carol Van Uden both of Bedford. A Memorial Reception will be held on Monday, March 5, 2001 at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire Chapel, an affiliate of Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Raphael Church, 103 Walker Street, Manchester. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
