Roland Raymond Marchand passed away on September 10, 2016 from complications due to Alzheimer's disease.
Born October 27, 1942 in Berlin NH to Raymond and Melodia Marchand he graduated from Notre Dame High School, Class of 1960. Roland spent his childhood days enjoying the outdoors in the North Country hunting, fishing, and playing baseball. He cherished the time he spent with his father cutting wood for Brown Paper Company.
Roland served in the US Army at Fort Bragg, NC from 1960-63 where he worked in MASH units, was Chaplain's assistant and played catcher on the Army's traveling baseball team.
Roland worked as a steelworker at Lyons Ironworks in Manchester before starting his 30 year career with the US Postal Service retiring as revenue assurance analyst. During his retirement he worked 10 years for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. He was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, American Legion Sweeney Post 2, and The Arc of Greater Manchester.
He will always be loved by his wife of 29 years, Christine Zyla Marchand. He also leaves behind his brother, Leo (Diane) Marchand of Manchester and his sister, Irene (Robert) Scarlett, of Manchester; his six children Annette of Boscawen, Cynthia (Mark) Tetreault of Epsom, Jo-Ann of Manchester, Daniel of West Lebanon, Catherine (James) Greenwood of Wells, Maine, and Marc (Kimberly) of Wilmot, NH; two stepdaughters, Jill (John) McNally of Windham and Leslie (James) Lazio of Farmington. Grandchildren Kelsea Marchand, Holly Tetreault, Cameryn Marchand, Benjamin Tetreault, Nicholas Marchand, Matthew Tetreault, Adam and Will Marchand; step grandchildren Brandon Greenwood, Tanah McNally and Vito Lazio; his brother-in-law, Andrew "Joey" Zyla, with whom he shared a special bond; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Roland will be remembered for his unyielding sense of humor as well as his love of family, bass fishing, camping, road trips, and Boston sports teams.
Arrangements: His Memorial Gathering will be held in the Cremation Society of NH, 243 Hanover St., Manchester, on Wednesday, Sept. 14 from4:00 to 7:00P.M. His Memorial Service will be held at the Cremation Society of NH, on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 10:00A.M. The family would like to thank the Family Wellness Center in Bedford and Home Health and Hospice of Merrimack for their excellent medical care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, care of Visiting Angels, PO Box 715, Auburn NH 03032-0715 or the Community Hospice House, 210 Naticook Rd, Merrimack NH 03054.
