Roland L. "Joe" Michaud

Roland L. "Joe" Michaud, 85, a longtime Lowell resident, died peacefully on Sunday, January 6, 2019 surrounded by his family.
Joe was the beloved husband of the late Rose A. (Lonardo) Michaud, whom he married in 1989. Together they spent several years residing in Nashua, NH and Stuart, FL and enjoyed traveling the country during their retirement.
Born in Lowell on April 14, 1933, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Rose (Boisvert) Michaud.
Joe was raised in Lowell and graduated from Lowell High School. He joined the Air Force in 1951, proudly serving as a patrolman in the 47th Air Police Squad until his honorable discharge in 1955. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree in business management at Lowell Technical Institute and worked primarily in sales during his years of employment. In 1997, after 20 years of service, Joe retired from H&M Metals Inc. in Amherst, NH, a company formerly co-owned by his late brother, Ronald Michaud.
Joe loved spending the winter months in his Florida home, swimming or golfing with family and friends. He was also an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed watching the NE Patriots and Boston Red Sox, as well as an avid reader of mystery and science fiction. As the years progressed, you would often find him sitting in his favorite recliner with a good book in his hands and in the company of "his" dogs, Bogie and Lexie, who brought him great joy and companionship.
Joe was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his former spouse, Helen Michaud, and their children, Joseph Michaud and his wife, Suzanne of Lowell, Joanne Fagan and her husband, Edward of Dracut, and Eric Michaud of Lowell; his stepdaughter, Rolanda Sylvain and her husband, John of Auburn, NH; his grandchildren Joseph, Adam, and Matthew Michaud, Julianna and Evan Fagan, Julia and Lauren Sylvain, and Lyric Michaud; and four beautiful great granddaughters. Joe also leaves behind his sister, Pauline Miller; brothers, Raymond Michaud, Roger Michaud and his wife, Keri, and Richard Michaud and his wife, Louise; and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was predeceased by his sisters Jeanette Saulnier and Theresa Wallace, and brother Ronald Michaud.
Joe's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents at Benchmark's Chelmsford Crossings for the care he received and the friendships he made, as well as the staff at D'Youville Senior Care and Circle Home Hospice Care for the comfort and care they provided him.
At Joe's request, there will be no open calling hours. He will be interred at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashua, NH, where a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe's memory to Warrior Canine Connection at www.warriorcanineconnection.org.
