Roland E. Patnode, Jr, 71 of Somersworth, NH, passed away at home surrounded by his family on December 27, 2013. Born October 20, 1942 in Rockingham, VT, he was the son of Roland E. and Althea (Eddy) Patnode. Roland graduated from Brewster Academy in 1960. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the Marines. Roland devoted his life to the American Legion Post 7 in Rochester for over 40 years. He served as Post Commander and held several positions in the Post. Roland was also active in District 3 and served as District 3 Commander, he served as Vice Commander, Department Commander and Alternate National Executive Committeeman. Roland was also a member of the Rochester VFW and Rochester Elks. Roland enjoyed playing cribbage, laying in the sun and playing with his grandchildren. Roland was also an avid New York Yankee fan.
Roland will be deeply missed by his fiancé, Marie Messier; two daughters, Brooke Zaring and her husband Rick of Clinton, UT and Kimberly Proulx and her husband Bill of Sanbornville, NH; Marie's son, Michael Nolette and wife Tonya of Somersworth, NH; seven grandchildren, Codey and wife Brianna, Madison, Logan, Hunter, Kendall, Emma and David; two great grandchildren Jonah and Elijah; and sister Ruth Chaloe of Chandler, AZ, and extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his step mother, Dorothia (Higgins) Patnode; daughter Heather Quintana (8/1/2013) and two sisters, Audrey (Patnode) Jackman and Dawn (Patnode) Waite.

Military service will be held on January 21, 2014 at 12:30pm at New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen, NH.
