Roland John Place, 74 of Middleton, New Hampshire passed away at his home on July 11, 2021.

He was born in Providence, RI on October 22, 1946 to the late Elsa (Keurulainen) Place. He grew up in New Ipswich and graduated from Appleton Academy in 1964. He enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduation. While serving in the Air Force he was stationed in Greece and Japan. He had a long and successful career as a crane electrician at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He was able to travel to Puget Sound, Pearl Harbor, Norfolk, and South Korea while at the Navy Yard. He retired in 2006. He had the opportunity after retirement to travel to Finland with his cousin David to meet and visit with family. In his free time he loved to hike, snowmobile, and watch his favorite sports teams: Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, Red Sox, and the UConn Huskies girls basketball. He also enjoyed Nascar races. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed by all.

Roland was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Roland managed his disease with strength and grace and on his final days, he was surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his daughter Jennifer and her husband Marc Wainwright of Middleton, NH, daughter Deborah and her husband Jason Nicol of Middleton, NH, his grandchildren Samantha and Michael Wainwright and Megan, Blake, and Addison Nicol. In addition, his brother Fred and his wife Sue Place, his sister Louise and her husband Paul Bourdeau, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A service will take place on July 22, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the New Hampshire State Veteran's Cemetery, Boscawen.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the New Hampshire Food Bank or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
