Ronald E. Cypher (91) of Portsmouth, New Hampshire passed away after a long life on November 24, 2024. He was born on Christmas Eve to Samuel and Yvonne (Gaudet) Cypher. He was raised in Manchester, NH and met his future bride there on her 15th birthday. Ron spent four years as a Navy Corpsman attached to the Marines and courageously fought for 14 months in the Korean War. Three years after they met, and upon his return from Korea, Ron married the love of his life, Doris (Lanseigne) Cypher on November 21, 1953, whom he fondly nicknamed “Gus” and raised four amazing children together. Ron and Doris started their own successful Submarine Sandwich business out of their home in Amesbury, Massachusetts, and creatively named it “Rondos.”
Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Ron’s careers included management positions at Foodliner in Amesbury, MA and Giant Value in Georgetown, MA, 18 years as a UPS driver (lead driver), and 13 years at Essex Silverline in Dracut, MA (2 years as plant manager).
Ron didn’t stop there, his volunteer positions over the years included 11 years on the Newton, NH Fire Department, 18 years on the Newton Water Commission, 18 years on the Portsmouth Traffic and Safety Committee, 7 years on the Lafayette Road Residents’ Association (4 years as President), Hillcrest Estates Neighbors Helping Neighbors, and now you know who the “Anonymous Visitor” was.
Ron loved his family above all else. He took pride in protecting and defending them when necessary.
Ron was predeceased by his beautiful wife, Doris, his parents, and all of his six siblings. He lives on through his children Donna L. Whalen and husband Kevin of Dexter, Maine; Larry D. Cypher and fiancé Nancy Gwizdowski of Farmington, Maine; Jane M. Garcia and husband Troy of Palm Bay, Florida; and Kathy C. Maguire of Keene, New Hampshire; Grandchildren Derek A. Cypher and wife Jennifer of Randolph, Vermont; Emily N. Whalen and husband Jason Joaquin of Manchester, New Hampshire; Joshua D. Whalen and wife Laura of Etna, Maine; Dustin F. Whitehouse of South Berwick, Maine; Great Grandchildren Joslyn M. Whalen and mother Taylor of Plymouth, Maine; Jaxon C. Whitehouse of Coventry, CT; Adley M. Whalen of Etna, Maine; and Liam H.
