Ronald Ian MacLachlan

Ronald Ian MacLachlan, age 83, of Walpole, NH passed away January 17, 2025 with family by his side at the Jack Byrne Center for Hospice Care.

Ron lived with a deep passion for International Affairs, Politics, Pride for his Scottish Heritage and love for his wife and family. All will remember him for his bellowing “OOOHHHH Hello!!!!!” as he raised his hands and gave a wide smile when he greeted you. He was a storyteller who loved to re-live and share past adventures, and a dreamer who never gave up hope for planning the next one. Neighbors will remember him for his morning bagpipe practice sessions on his porch.

Ron grew up on Staten Island, NY and graduated from Bucknell University. He attended the London School of Economics, where he met is wife of 59-years while on a transatlantic boat en-route.

Ron was a Veteran and an Officer in the Army: Special Forces/Green Beret. He served in South Korea and Thailand during the Vietnam War. Ron spent much of his adult life working and traveling with his wife and children to all corners of the world. The longest years were spent in Jeddah & Riyadh Saudi Arabia, and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan -while shorter stays included his favorites of Portugal and Spain. After he “retired” from the international scene he worked in project development and management for local contractors. Ron was involved in the Walpole International Affairs Group, Walking Group, Boy Scouts, and lead the Non-Fiction Book Group, He was a proud Scotsman, played the bagpipes and would don his kilt at local Robert Burns Suppers -and loved to attend the Scottish Highland Festivals.

Ron is survived by his wife Patricia, whom he married in her home country of England. His older sister Joan, sister-in-law Linda ( husband John) in England, his sons Trevor ( wife Jane), and John ( wife Erin), Grandchildren Lauren, Caroline, Ian, Quade, Keegan, Maisie and Sam, many cousins nieces and nephews, friends and work associates in the US and abroad. Ron adored the Gardner/Brogan’s - the ‘friends who are family’ in England, and his cousin Ian Duncan (wife Susan) who was like a younger brother, with whom he shared endless laughs, and joined Ron on many work and personal adventures . He was pre-deceased by his parents, his daughter Elizabeth (Jacqui) and his oldest sister Margery.
