Ronald
Wirth
Nov 28, 1942 — Mar 8, 2026
Ronald Wirth (83) of Warner, NH died peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2026 surrounded by family, ushered to the end by his wife and daughters.
Ron was the first-born child of Franz “Frank” Wirth of Hamburg, Germany, and Dorothy Wirth (Popplewell) of Richardson, TX. He spent his early life between Arizona and California. His interest in technology started early, in radio, cameras, and computers. As he would have put it, he was part of the early electronics revolution. If you were ever a listening ear to Ron, willingly or otherwise, you may know that he loved to talk about his history, particularly his love of electronics, coffee, classic cars, and the pride he had for his children.
Ron was married to his loving wife, Ellen, for 38 years. They met by chance in the summer of 1985. If fate brought them together, an enduring love kept them married; a love for each other, their way of life, their family, and unmistakably, for the town and people of Warner, NH. Ron and Ellen raised their two daughters in Warner and together they nurtured an appreciation for science – always watching the latest programs on the History or Discovery channels, and Star Trek, for good measure. Ron taught his daughters how to cook, basic car mechanics, and welding. He instilled a belief that if something is broken, one should at least try to fix it.
Ron was a man of many words and a lifetime of stories. Some of the family’s favorites, that he de-scented skunks to sell as pets; he accidentally shot a metal rocket through his neighbors’ garage; and he worked ski patrol on Big Bear mountain when snowboarding became popular. Ron was a man living in a past of great memories, and great sorrows. Most notably, the early lives and early deaths of his sons.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Dorothy Wirth of Monrovia, CA; his siblings, Larry Wirth of Tucson, AZ, and Franziska “Fran” Benes (Wirth) of Irvine, CA; and his sons, Darin and Ryan Wirth. Ron is survived by his wife, Ellen Wirth (Robinson) of Warner, NH; his siblings-in-law, Chris Benes of Irvine, CA, and Barbara Wirth of Tucson, AZ; his daughter Caitlin Wirth of Lowell, MA; and his daughter Megan Wirth, son-in-law Blaise Bookis, and 3-month-old grandson Jack Bookis of Groton, MA. Knowing he would be a grandfather and meeting his grandson were the last of the joys in Ron’s life.
Ron could be cordial or cutting, with more of the latter in his final years. He was not a fan of aging. As a man with a dark humor and penchant for cold logic, he once told Ellen that if he were to move to a nursing home, we should just leave him there and not visit. Nonetheless, when his care became too challenging to address at home, we supported him the best we could.
Thank you to Harris Hill Center for caring for him in his final years, and thank you to the Warner Police and Fire Rescue. Ron's health decline was long and challenging. Your compassion meant the world to our family, a kindness we will never forget.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Warner Fire Rescue. Please contact the family for information about a celebration of life later in 2026. In the meantime, have a cup of coffee and chat with a friend in Ron’s honor."
