Rosemary Ann (Schwartz) Forsch, 85, of Pierre, SD, affectionately known as "Rosie”, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, in Concord, NH surrounded by her loving family.
Born on November 29, 1939, in Grosse Pointe, MI, to Herman and Mary (Leesch) Schwartz, Rosie spent her early years in Wadena, MN. She attended St. Ann’s Catholic School through eighth grade and graduated from Wadena High School in 1957, where she was a proud member of the Girls Athletic Association and Girls’ Chorus. From a young age, she embraced life with an adventurous spirit, finding joy in dancing, roller skating, and the excitement of county fairs. As the eldest of four, she naturally cared for her siblings with the warmth and kindness that defined her life.
After high school, Rosie embarked on an adventure to Ventura, California, where she worked at a women’s clothing store and modeled in advertisements. Upon returning to Wadena, she was crowned Miss Wadena, proudly serving as an ambassador for her hometown, an experience that created many memories.
In the summer of 1959, while working at JCPenney, fate brought her together where she met Roger Forsch, the love of her life. Just three months later, on September 5, they married, beginning a life full of adventures. Together, moving across the Midwest, raising their three children, and building a loving home wherever they went. Minnesota always held a special place in their hearts, and they returned often for family reunions and treasured visits to Leech & Leaf Lake.
As the heart of her family, Rosie was known to be a caring mother and loving friend. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she shared her love of cooking, sewing, and life’s simple pleasures which led to many forever family traditions. She was affectionately called "Sarge" for her ability to keep everyone organized with a perfect blend of strength and humor. Rosie enjoyed reading, playing cards, social events, and gardening. She led by example, teaching her children that true strength lies in kindness, patience, and an open heart. She lifted others, and left a legacy of love that will never fade.
In their later years, Rosie and Roger enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing, creating lasting memories with friends and family. Their retirement years in Mesa, AZ, were filled with sunshine and relaxation, and treasured visits to New Hampshire where Rosie loved the fall season, visits with her daughter’s family taking in the fall foliage, covered bridges, apple cider donuts, and the Red Sox breaking the curse.
Rosie is survived by her three children, Kevin (Carroll) Forsch of Ft. Pierre, SD, Tim (Catherine) Forsch of Sioux Falls, SD, and Kimberly (Steve) Erickson of Concord, NH; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and beloved members of the Hanson-Olseth, Schwartz, and Forsch families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years, Roger Forsch, her sister Carolyn Schwartz, and her brother-in-law Garret Forsch.
A church service and celebration of life for Roger and Rosemary Forsch will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church in Pierre, SD. Visiting hours will take place at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will be held immediately after the service, where family and friends can gather to share memories and celebrate their remarkable lives. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the First United Methodist Church of Pierre, SD.
Rosie’s boundless love and gentle spirit left an unforgettable mark on all who knew her. Now, at peace, she is reunited with Roger, the love of her life of 65 years, their souls forever entwined. Rest in peace Rosie, you beautiful soul. You were a model for how life should be lived.
