Listen to Obituary

Rosemary (Gayton) Jewett died peacefully on November 12, 2025, at Havenwood Heritage Heights in Concord, New Hampshire. She was 95 years old.

Rosemary was born in Cambridge, MA, on March 5, 1930, to Mary and Harry Gayton. She was a beloved wife, mother of five, and grandmother of eleven. She was also a resourceful homemaker and an accomplished community leader; serving as a longtime 4H club leader, parish councilmember at St. Catherine's Church in Ithaca, NY and All Saints Parish in Lansing, NY, as well as a dedicated library and literacy volunteer. Rosemary was an enthusiastic cross-country, hockey, lacrosse, and cheer mom.

Her education included St. Peter's Elementary and St. John the Evangelist High School in Cambridge, MA (1947). In 1978, she graduated from Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden, NY, earning her degree in financial accounting.

Her work life began in 1947 at American Mutual Insurance Company in Boston until her marriage in 1953. She then moved to New York State, where she worked as director of volunteers in mathematics at Northeast Elementary School and as an accountant for Ciaschi CPA firm and Eastwood Commons in Ithaca, NY.

Rosemary loved swimming, skating, reading, birding, cardplaying, travel, hiking, kayaking, and sailing as first mate on Cayuga Lake. She was an optimistic, quick-witted inspiration to everyone she met. Her smile was contagious.

Rosemary is survived by Donald, her husband of 72 years, who was the light of her life; her children Diane (Robert) Kilroy, Karen (Harold) Jewett-Bennett, Laurence Jewett, Leslie (Peter) Hadden, Steven (Jodi) Jewett; and her eleven grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her parents and brother Harry.

A family service will be held on December 6, followed by a community service on January 13, both at Havenwood Heritage Heights. A celebration of her life is planned for the late spring. Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Boscawen. To view Rosemary's Online Tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.csnh.com.
