Samuel F. Kambol

Samuel F. Kambol, 90, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, left us on May 1st after a long and courageous battle with Lewy body dementia. On his better days, his wit, intelligence and humor would still shine through.

Born in South Bend, Indiana, Sam graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in physics from the University of Notre Dame. One of his first career assignments was working on the development of the Taos missile. He later served as Programming Manager for the New York Daily News in New York City and also worked for many years with the US Army Core of Engineers in Washington DC. His entrepreneurial career included developing one of the first Senior Safety Alert Systems as well as a School Notification System for absent children, which was used in many schools in New York and New Jersey.

Sam held a pilot’s license and belonged to the Flying Yankees Club. He was a long-time member of the Bedford Italian Cultural Society where he made many life-long friendships. He was an avid runner and a voracious reader. He had a gift for languages, loved music and enjoyed time with family. Sam and his wife, Kitty, enjoyed their many years of seeing the world together.

Sam was predeceased by parents, Samuel and Anna Mae (Newlun) Kambol, beloved stepfather Oscar Manteufel, sister, Patricia Lovelett and grandson, Daniel Reilly. He is survived by his wife, Kitty, brother, Stephen, sister, Mona, sons, Samuel, Peter and his wife, Karen, daughter, Ellen and her husband David, grandsons, John Reilly and his wife, Kayleigh, and Peter Reilly and his partner, Shannon, granddaughter, Audrey, great granddaughter, Ada Reilly, and several nieces and nephews.
