MILTON, New Hampshire — Sandra Lee “Sandy” Hitchings, age 81 of Milton, formerly of Dover, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025. Born in Exeter on June 26, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Allen W. Littlefield and Grace E. (Chapman) Littlefield.
Sandy was the beloved wife of Paul E. Hitchings with whom she shared 50 years of marriage.
Sandy was employed at Care Pharmacy and Cassidy’s Card Shop for 45 years. She managed the Seabrook and Epsom locations at different points as well as running the central warehouse in Rochester for several years. Prior to retirement, she managed the expansive gift section of the Rochester Care Pharmacy.
Sandy had an infectious smile and will be remembered for her cheerful, energetic, and friendly personality. Possessing a warm sense of humor, she was known for good-natured jokes and teasing. Her circle of friends was expansive, and she truly enjoyed her time spent with them whether it was one-on-one or in large groups. Entertaining family and friends for Christmas dinner, Fourth of July cookouts, and birthday parties was a source of joy for her as well as all that participated.
Gardening was also a true passion. Hours would be spent almost daily during the growing season, tending to or expanding the numerous garden beds in Milton. Many gardens in Dover and Milton feature flora that stemmed from Sandy’s green thumb.
Sandy’s love of children extended well beyond her own. She could not pass by a baby or young child without saying hello and complementing them.
She was the devoted mother of Michael George Jr and his wife, Melissa, of Dover; Marciea Dearborn and her husband, Charles, of Milton; and Kenneth Hitchings of Milton.
She was the loving sister of Pamela Brown of Quinton, Virginia, and was predeceased by her brother Steven R. Littlefield of Dover.
Sandy was also the proud grandmother of Sara French; Ross and Brandon Dearborn; Collin George; Maxwell Byrd; and Noah Berube. She was the great-grandmother of Aiden and Sophia French, and Savannah Dearborn. She is also survived by nieces, Rhonda Tryder, Nancy Fowler, Nichole Wagaman, and Jennifer Littlefield; nephews James Tryder, Allen, Guy and Steven Littlefield; and Michael Wagaman and many cousins.
Services were held privately.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in Sandy’s memory to Hyder Family Hospice House, 285 County Farm Road Dover, NH 03820.
