Sandy Walker of Amherst, NH and a longtime resident of Groton, MA passed away peacefully at the age of 74 on January 28, 2025, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on March 25, 1950, in New Haven, CT to the late John F. Cavoli and Rose (Volpicelli) Cavoli.
Sandy attended Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden, CT and later graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in both Elementary Education and Social Sciences. Sandy was a passionate educator and spent her career in early childhood education, a profession she loved. She began her career working in the New Haven Public School system. After taking time off in the late 80’s and early 90’s to raise her family, she returned to teaching at Carlisle Public Schools in Carlisle, MA in 1994. There she taught both kindergarten and later first grade until 2007.
In addition to being passionate about teaching young children she was incredibly creative. She loved cooking and creating her own cuisine for her family — Sunday dinner being the highlight of the week. Sandy also loved to garden, especially growing many different varieties of flowers including Peonies, Nasturtiums, Lilies, Black Eyed Susans, Purple Coneflowers and her most favorite flower: Irises.
Sandy leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Bruce R. Walker, her daughter Sara C. Walker of Providence, RI, her son, Christopher J. Walker of Cambridge, MA and her daughter Meghan E. Walker of Cranston, RI. She was pre-deceased by her only sibling Joan E. Cavoli of Bedford, NH. She also leaves behind her dear cousins Robert Vocelli and his wife Virginia of West Hartford, CT and Thomas Vocelli of Hamden, CT as well as many other cousins and dear friends.
