Sands Alden Fish, 96, of Newbury NH and Melbourne, FL died on July 5, 2000 in New Hampshire. Born on January 13, 1904 in the family farmhouse in Mystic CT, he was the son of Alden and Martha (Edgecomb) Fish. He was a descendant of John Fish who first settled along the Mystic River in 1655 where the family established a dairy farm in 1798. As a young boy he worked on the family farm and helped deliver milk from a horse drawn wagon. Mr. Fish was the husband of the late Winifred Wheeler Fish for 65 years. He was active in the Union Baptist Church in Mystic, CT, serving as the Sunday School Superintendent and in the Putnam, CT Baptist Church as the church treasurer for many years. He was affiliated with the Masons for over 70 years in both CT and FL. He was a foreman of installers in Southern New England Telephone Company of CT upon retirement in 1970, after 39 years of employment. During his retirement years he traveled with his wife and then settled in FL and New Hampshire on Lake Sunapee. He is survived by his five children, Nancy Anderson of Arizona, Martha Greenwood, Cynthia LeMaire, and Alden Fish, III all of Massachusetts, and Susan Eastman of Connecticut, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Warren and William Fish, both of Mystic, CT. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at Union Baptist Church, Mystic, CT. Burial will follow at the Fish Cemetery in Mystic. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Fish Cemetery Association, 450 Pequot Avenue, Mystic, CT, 06355, your local Hospice, or Union Baptist Church, 119 High Street, Mystic, CT.
