Scott E. Golder

Scott Edward Golder died at his home in Brattleboro, VT on October 5, 2023 after a battle with cancer. He was 61. With the help of his good friend Ali, Scott took charge of his treatment with a holistic plan that let him enjoy a good quality of life for many months longer than were promised.

Scott grew up in Sudbury, Massachusetts with his parents Stephen and Susan (Fayne) Golder and his siblings Amy and Robert. He graduated from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO.  Scott spent time in the west and then returned to Massachusetts where he married and raised two children. Scott loved to work with his hands and his working life included furniture making and home renovations.

Scott’s activism started at a young age. He wasn’t afraid to question the status quo and advocate for those he felt were wronged. This desire to be of service led him to join the Peace Corps after college and serve in Kenya. In later years he would spend many months living and working with the indigenous community at the Dakota Access Pipeline demonstrations, an experience he treasured and which filled him with purpose and meaning.

Another continuing theme in Scott’s life was his love of music. He played guitar and sang from the time he was a young man up until the day before his death. He shared his love of music with his children and had countless musician friends who he enjoyed playing with in groups, at open mic nights and anywhere two or more of them were together.

Scott is survived by his children, Lindsey and Ace, his father and step-mother Stephen and Margo Golder, his sibling and step-siblings, nieces and nephews and by numerous loyal and loving friends. Scott was preceded in death by his mother Susan and younger brother Robert.

A musical celebration of life will take place in Spring 2024.
