Sheila F. Stanley, 59, of Concord died on November 19, 2001 after a long and courageous struggle with cancer. Sheila was born on July 8, 1942 in Boston, MA the daughter of the late Malcolm and Anita (McKeen) Stanley. She had been a resident of Concord since 1978. Most recently she worked as a clinical psychologist at Womankind Counseling Center in Concord. Prior to that she was the Clinical Director of Contoocook Valley Counseling Center in Henniker, NH. She touched an untold number of lives through her work. Sheila was a prominent leader in the effort to expand women's rights, especially in the area of domestic violence, often serving as an expert witness on behalf of victims. In 1979 she was appointed by the governor to the NH Commission on the Status of Women. She was the recipient of many awards, including Citizen of the Year given by the Women's Lobby. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Concord. She was a gifted painter and enjoyed spending time at her home on the coast of Maine. She loved the outdoors and especially loved to garden, and ski. Family members include; her beloved daughter, Lauren Stanley-Stuhr, a senior at Bishop Brady High School; two step sons Mark Stuhr and Michael Stuhr, both of California; a grandson, Jaxson Stuhr; two sisters, Anita Gail Stanley of Dennis, MA and Josephine Stanley Warren of Bennington, VT; and many loving friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 24th at 2:00 PM at the Unitarian Universalist SOciety on Pleasant Street in Concord.
