Shirley Marie Briggs, 87, of Bedford, passed away on August 22, 2022 after a period of declining health.

Born in Cobleskill NY on May 27, 1935, she was the daughter of Ernest H. Buhr and Caroline M. (Kramer) Buhr. She was raised and educated in Middleburgh, NY, then attended Russell Sage College with an interest in nursing. As a young bride she moved to Boston, MA and worked at Northeastern University as a bookkeeper, later moving to Danvers, MA and starting a family. The family moved to Bedford, NH in 1967 raising three daughters. Shirley was a homemaker with many talents and hobbies that she made the most of, a seamstress, avid gardener, creative cook, she loved to knit and was known for her creative crafts and handmade custom cards.  She brought her talents to the places she worked at for many years which include Full Grown Plants where she was affectionally known by many as The Plant Lady, and as a seamstress for Puffin Window Fashions. Shirley was a long time member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church, Bedford Craftworkers’ Guild, Bedford Woman’s Club, and Bedford Snow Owls. She was active in the local Girl Scouts serving as a leader and a Sunday school teacher.  One of Shirley’s joys is when she won the best in state apple pie contest, as the family knew it was the best!

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Glenford Everett Briggs of Bedford, NH, and their three daughters; Sharon (Briggs) Adams and her husband Michael, Lauren Briggs, and Jacalyn (Briggs) Laurendeau and her husband Denis, five grandchildren; Stephanie (Adams) Ferrell and her husband Neil, Justin Remillard, Megan (Remillard) Lemay and her husband Jesse, Bryce Laurendeau, and Kaitlyn Laurendeau, and two great grandchildren; Emmalyn Ferrell and Everett Ferrell.

She is predeceased by her parents and only sibling, Ernest C. Buhr of NY.

There are no visiting hours, a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Shirley’s name may be made to VNA of Manchester, 1070 Holt Ave, Suite 1400, Manchester, NH 03109, or in lieu of flowers please plant a tree or a native flowering plant for the bees.
