Shirley Pansy Smith, 84, a lifelong resident of Barnstead, passed away at home with family by her side. She was widowed in 1981 when she lost her husband Joseph Smith and recently lost her longtime companion Russell Whitcomb. Born on January 3, 1936, in Marlboro Vermont. She was the daughter of her loving parents, the late Henry and Dorinda (Come) Gerlack.
Shirley was predeceased by her sister Cecilia, and brothers Clarence, Alfred and William. Survived by her children, Alfred Smith of West Virginia, Katherine Shampney and her husband John, Casey (Dorothea) Lavallee and her husband Richard both from Barnstead, Reginald Smith and his longtime companion Darlene Reed of Pittsfield, and Valerie Clements of Contoocook. As well as her sisters Eleanor Come, Madgeline Gerlach, Della O'Mullen and her brothers Henry Gerlack, Frank Gerlack Sr., Rolla Gerlack, their spouses, and their families
Shirley was a hard-working woman who was employed for decades by Globe Manufacturing until her retirement. As an animal lover she spent many years maintaining a small farm with her companion. She was a caring Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister and Aunt to many.
Per Shirley's wishes no services will be held. She will be interred with her late husband in a private cemetery in Nottingham at a future date, at the family's convenience.
