Shiv Maira

Shiv Maira, 26, of 27 Pine Hill Road, Hollis NH 03049, son of Guli and Shakti Maira, died unexpectedly and peacefully on March 20, 2000 at McLean Hospital, Belmont, MA. He was a graduate of Hollis/Brookline HS, class of 1991, and a magna cum laude graduate in Economics and Sociology from Wesleyan University, class of 1995. He was a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship, The Harvey B. Gram and Charles B. Ray scholarships. He loved children and volunteered his time to teach underprivileged children at the Mobile Creches in India and in the Middletown Housing projects. He served as a volunteer member of the US Peace Corps in Turkmenistan as a schoolteacher and last worked at a law firm in Boston. He wrote poetry, drew and was an accomplished squash and tennis player. Besides his parents he is survived by his sister Brinda, paternal grandmother Mrs. Usha Maira, family and friends around the world. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 25 at 11: 00 am at The Unitarian-Universalist Church, 58 Lowell Street, Nashua.
