Sigrid Maria (Ericsson) Johnson

Sigrid Maria (Ericsson) Johnson, 77, died on November 6, 2018 at her home in Franklin. She was born on October 21, 1941 in Danderyd, Stockholm, Sweden, daughter of Aka Johan Gustaf Ericsson and Anna Margareta Nee Malmquist.

Sigrid was an excellent student growing up in Stocksund, Sweden. She was the youngest of three children; older brother Tomas Ericsson, by whom she was predeceased and sister Carin Ericsson who still lives in Stockholm. After school Sigrid went on to study weaving that inspired a lifelong interest in arts. She then met an American, Robert Veiling Johnson, II who was doing a year abroad before entering Law School. They Married in 1964 and she moved to the United States where she lived in Cambridge, MA and worked for Harvard University until moving to Concord, NH where she lived for the next 30 years working and raising her two children, Celia Annah Johnson Calkins and Jared Veiling Johnson.

Sigrid was a member of the Andover Congregational Church where she had many friends and where she felt at home. She loved reading and would choose a good book over TV any day. She loved flowers, cooking, music and singing, spending time with friends and family, bargain hunting and staying active. In retirement, she volunteered at area craft fairs and often visited the library, participating in activities such as yoga and strength training. She also loved swimming and was known to enjoy local lakes and rivers in NH and in her many visits back to Sweden. She was known to brave the waters earlier and later in the season than most, smiling at anyone not bold enough to join and explain how she simply considered the cold "refreshing."

She is survived by her loving family; Son, Jared Johnson and his wife Kathy Johnson of Westmoreland, Tennessee. Daughter Celia Calkins and son in law Dr. George Bortnick, granddaughter Alexis Calkins and grandsons Tim, Josh and Christian Bortnick of Concord, NH. Her significant other, Karl Tobiasson, of Contoocook. Her sister, Carin Ericsson and her sister in law Birgitta Ericsson and her nieces, Asa, Gunnel and Jenny all of whom she loved visiting in Sweden as often as possible.

Sigrid had many friends and she cared deeply for them. She would always take the time to get to know people and was immediately recognizable by her Swedish accent, infectious laughter and kind and thoughtful presence. Sigrid will be missed by all of her friends and family.
