Steven Morang, 75, of 41 Hummingbird Dr., Merrimack died on July 11, 2002 at Community Hospice House in Merrimack after a brief illness. Steve was born on July 23, 1926 in Portsmouth the son of the late Ralph and Alice (Stevens) Morang. He was the youngest Eagle Scout in the U S in 1939. He was elected to receive the American Legion School Award in Portsmouth in 1940. He was a Past Master Councilor of DeMolay. He was a U S Army Veteran and served in World War II. He was a Professor of Economics and Business at the University of Maine Augusta for 18 years. He also taught at Dean Junior College in Franklin, MA and Bentley College, Waltham, MA. He was a graduate of University of New Hampshire and did postgraduate work at Boston College and Babson College. He loved teaching, reading, singing, nature, the ocean, sailing ships, and was interested in everything. Steve was a man of all seasons he was an intellectual who loved doing construction work. He would change a diaper or clean a bathroom or do the dishes. Family members include his wife of 12 years, Barbara (Bliss) Morang; son, David Morang and his wife Belinda of Merrimack, daughter Steffani Morang O'Hanlon and her husband Bill of Santa Fe, New Mexico; grandchildren Sarah and Laura Morang of Merrimack; brother Charles H. Morang, Esq. and his wife Pam of Keene, sister-in-law Ida Morang of Rye widow of his brother Ralph E. Morang, and nine nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2002 at Merrimack Meadows Community Center, Hummingbird Dr., Merrimack at 2:00 pm. Donations can be made to the North Bridgton Library, North Bridgton, ME 04057 where Steve was a volunteer and organizer of the annual book sale for several years.
