Susan C. Harp, 55, died at her home in Hanover on March 15, 2006, after a courageous struggle with cancer. She was born in Montreal, Quebec on December 20, 1950, a daughter of Leslie E. and Helen (Sorlie) Crout. She was trained in the western Arctic to perform general dentistry in remote Inuit settlements, and met her husband, Douglas Harp, in Rankin Inlet, N.W.T. in 1976. They were married in 1978, and eleven years later together founded Harp and Company Graphic Design. Several examples of her work have been published in design books and journals and have won recognition in the United States and abroad. She received her B.A. from Vermont College in 2001 and her Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Antioch New England in May 2005. In addition to her involvement in Harp and Company, she was a therapist at Family Strength in Claremont. During the last four years of her life, Susan volunteered as a facilitator in the Family Program at the Hyde School, in Bath, Maine, from which her sons graduated,. Referred to by her devoted parents-in-law as Canadas Greatest Export, her gentle nature, modesty, and kindness to others endeared her to everyone whose lives she touched. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, MacGregor and Peter, her father, and a sister, Eden Court, both of Victoria, British Columbia, and two brothers, Andrew and Adam Crout, of Iqualuit, Nunavut. Susan was pre-deceased by her mother and her brothers, Peter and David. A celebration of Susans life and art will be held at the AVA Gallery, to be announced later, sometime in early summer.
