Terrence "Terry" William Wilkins, age 72, died on Monday, April 6, 2020, at St. Joseph's Hospital, from complications of Parkinson's Disease.
His wife, Jane, step daughter, Terri, Dr. McDonough, and Pastor Mike were at his side as he went home to God.
Terry was born on February 14, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois, to his parents, William and Grace Wilkins. At a young age, Terry's family moved to South America, where they remained for many years while his father worked for Sears Roebuck & Co.
Terry spoke fluent Spanish, and embraced every opportunity to converse with anyone and everyone in the language that was so much a part of his youth.
When the family returned to the states, they lived in Pennsylvania, then to New England, which he preferred to call, "home."
Terry attended Boston College, then joined the USAF, serving four years of active duty during the Vietnam War. Much of that time was spent in Japan.
Terry followed in his father's footsteps, gravitating to sales. One of his first jobs was with Sears Roebuck in Massachusetts. He later migrated to New Hampshire and joined the team of Barlo Signs in Hudson and remained with them for over 30 years.
It became his home away from home. He loved his work. His genuine love and curiosity of people played a major role in his success in sales. His clients weren't just clients. Many became long time friends.
In 1989 Terry met his wife, Jane. They married 4 years later, on Terry's birthday, also Valentine's Day at The Church Of The Good Shepherd in Nashua, New Hampshire. They have been married for 27 years. Terry and Jane moved to Tucson, Arizona within the first year of their marriage and stayed there for almost 9 years. They discovered a love of hiking while in Arizona. After 911, they moved back to New Hampshire to be closer to family.
Terry was an avid reader. He loved movies. He was known for having a never ending knowledge of trivia, which could lead to interesting, often colorful conversations. He enjoyed playing cribbage, especially with the "illegal foyer group." Only a few people will understand and appreciate that. He loved music, people, pets, family, friends and strangers. He was once a volunteer with The Make-A-Wish Foundation. Terry and Jane facilitated a Parkinson's Patient and Caregiver Support Group in Milford, NH.
Terry enjoyed sports and was a devoted NE Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan.
One of his favorite snacks was peanut butter filled pretzels. Of course he liked all snacks, chocolate at the top of the list and ice cream. Mexican food was always what he chose when given options. Terry had a gift of gab, with the ability to turn conversations around even with telemarketers, to the point of him selling to them. Terry loved to travel. Even as recent as a year and a half ago, he insisted on walking a rope bridge while in Ireland. He was afraid of heights, so that took great courage.
Terry loved to spend time with family. He worshipped his grandchildren. Terry was kind, compassionate and respectful to everyone. He had a gentle and generous heart. With great sincerity, he made everyone feel special. He loved making people smile. He had a gift of bringing out the best in anyone.
Terry gave much of himself to the church community at the Church of the Good Shepherd. He served on the vestry, served as an usher, worked with the youth group, and sang in the men's choir. Before his illness took over, he was there for whatever he good do for the church, gathering greens at Christmas to help decorate the church, and anything else he could do. The church community has been good to us. They are family and will continue to be.
Terry has joined his brother, David in Heaven, as well as others he's known and loved.
