Theda Stone Bassett

Theda Stone Bassett, born on February 3, 1920, child of Lloyd H. Stone and Ethel Roy Stone of Webster N.H., passed away on December 15, 2025 at the age of 105.

A woman of infinite Love of life, she traveled from a one room school house on Basham Hollow Road, in the Town of Webster N. H. to the Classified Technical Information Section of the Navel Underwater Sound Laboratory in New London, Connecticut. She became the curator of the Submarine Library and Museum in Groton, Connecticut, and was known as an authority on submarine history and warfare. While at the Submarine Library, she constructed a Special Cataloging and classification System for Submarines that was accepted by the Special Libraries Commission and the American Libraries Associations. She was Twice listed in the Who's Who in American Woman Directory and was the first elected Chairperson of the Wives of World War II Submarines Veterans Association.

Theda was a kind and loving soul. She was well respected and always had a kind word of encouragement for those she met. She believed "life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive and wellpreserved body, rather to skid in sideways, chocolates I one hand, cards in the other body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, screaming "Woo-Hoo, what a ride."

She leaves behind three children: David Neil Champagne, (Esther), Roy E. Champagne, (Connie), and Theda Dale Mayo, one Stepdaughter-in-law, Nancy Bassett, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Theda you were one of a kind, you made the world a better place and are truly missed. Thank you from all of us. May you rest in peace.
