Theodora Ruby Yuknewicz

Theodora "Ruby" (Linatsas) Yuknewicz, a lifelong resident of Nashua, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 surrounded by her loved ones.
Ruby was the beloved wife of the late Peter Yuknewicz, Jr.
A first generation Greek-American and born on Christmas Day, she was the daughter of the late Costas Linatsas and Calliope Dosa and grew up on Palm Street.
As a child of the Great Depression, her formal education was cut short when she was a student at the Temple Street Junior High School to help her family make ends meet.
She married Peter Yuknewicz in 1939 and they raised their family in the Fairmont Heights section of Nashua.
Known for her strong work ethic, Ruby worked at the Doehla's Greeting Card Factory, then Whitney Screw Corporation, while raising her family and at the urging of her husband, studied retail at Northeastern University and then opened her own home-based dress shop called "The Suburban House of Fashion". As recent as this year, she continued to work at her job twice a week, as a volunteer at the Corpus Christi Food Pantry.
Ruby was a determined lifelong learner who earned her G.E.D. when she was around 60-years-old and then went on to take college-level classes at Rivier University. She also enjoyed many educational, religious, and cultural travels to Rome, Israel, and Madjegore. She was a devout Catholic and active member of St. Christopher's Parish.
In her later years, she became an avid reader, and particularly enjoyed books written by the Brazilian author Paulo Coehlo. She loved playing cards, gardening, walking and most of all enjoying time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her brother Spiro Linatsas and his wife Stella of Lowell, and was the sister of the late James Linatsas and his late wife Eva of Nashua. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Diana Sanford and her husband Richard of Nashua, William Yuknewicz and his wife Cynthia of Amherst, and Stephanie Dufoe and her husband James of Nashua.

She is survived by seven grandchildren and their families: Christine Herter Warren and her husband Doug of Massachusetts, Deborah Yuknewicz-Boisvert and her husband Greg of Gilford, Carleton Dufoe and his wife Michelle of Hollis, Aaron Dufoe and his wife Kira of Nashua, Stephen Yuknewicz of Exeter, Jessica Kellogg and her husband Alex of Greenland and Paul Yuknewicz and his wife Olivia of Washington. She is survived by 12 great-grandchildren: Julia; Paxton and Kendall; Aidan, Benjamin, and Cecilia Ruby; Samuel, Carlie, and Holly; Lucy and Weston, and Avery as well as several special nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Ruby's funeral service, to be held at St. Christopher's Parish, 62 Manchester Street, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Corpus Christi Food Pantry and Assistance, 43 Franklin Street, Nashua, N.H. 03064.
