Thomas Eugene Fellows

Listen to Obituary

, 1945 to parents Robert and Arlene Fellows; Tom was very proud of being a native New Hampshirite and of the Fellows’ family residency in the state since the 1790s. After his family moved to a farm in Etna, he became involved with the 4-H club, taking his 4-H heifer Dolly to various local fairs and going to 4-H camp at Bear Brook State Park. It was there that he met his future wife, Nancy King. They married in 1964 and two sons, Mark and Richard, were welcomed into the family.

Tom graduated from Hanover High School in 1963, then received his associate’s degree in vocational electricity from NH Technical Institute (now Manchester Community College) in 1965. Tom’s entire working career was spent with Public Service Company of NH (now Eversource) beginning in 1965 until his retirement as an electrical supervisor in 2007. His work in the electrical department took him to substations throughout New Hampshire. His attention to detail was obvious in all his projects, from home construction to the restoration of his 1929 Model (acquired in boxes of parts and pieces in the 1970s and finally roadworthy in 2015). If questioned about the progress of what had been a long-term project, his response was, “You don’t want to rush into things.”

Tom and Nancy took several trips to England, Ireland, and Scotland where he gamely undertook driving on the other side of the road. His frequent comment after traveling was “I had a better time than I thought I would!” Family activities included camping, maple sugaring and his particular passion, gardening. His garden was dominated by multiple rows of corn to satisfy his love of fresh corn on the cob, cooked immediately after picking for optimal flavor.

He is survived by his wife Nancy; son Richard, daughter-in-law Abigail and their son Isaac; grandson Raymond Fellows; and nieces Larraby Fellows-Close and Chelsea Fellows-Stanley.

He was predeceased by his parents, his son Mark, and his sister, Judith Fellows-Miller, PhD.

At his request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Granite VNA which has supported Tom in several post-surgeries as well as with hospice care.
